"Ms. Rohe began her life in fashion in 1975 as the top model and muse for Italian designer Roberto Cavalli and Liz Claiborne. She credits her sense of style to her years of working and traveling to Europe with Cavalli, who was pioneering the technique of printed and embossed leather and suede.“I was fascinated with his truly unique mixing of patterns and colors and that really got me focused on combining and mixing vibrant colors for my scarves,” says Rohe.
In September 1991, she went to Europe and returned with a collection of exquisite patterns and fabrics. With the designs for her scarves in mind she opened her own showroom – Bernie of New York – on Seventh Avenue. Although the accessory market is noted for being on Fifth Avenue, Rohe’s experience of 15 years in the fashion industry prompted her to be where the action was….and is. Her instincts and her keen sense of trends paid off."

"Artist Vera Neumann" best known for her colorful silk scarves, Vera produced an incredible amount of work in her lifetime (over 20,000 scarves and 7,000 pieces of original artwork."
"With World War II in full swing, Vera found linen supplies dwindling and went in search of alternative materials for her products. She came across some parachute silk at an army surplus store, an event which marked the beginning of her scarf business. She kept her signature on art transferred to the scarves, thus creating the first signature scarf in history. "Vera scarves" became immediately popular and Vera herself was soon on first-name terms with well-known women around the country. Marilyn Monroe was a fan as were Grace Kelly and First Lady Bess Truman, who selected Vera fabric from Schumacher, Inc. to decorate the third-floor solarium windows and upholstery of the White House. Women from around the country also chose Vera products for their color and cheerful prints."
This colorful tropical design was created in the later 50's. The scarf is a lush soft silk with a rolled and machine stitched edging.
